The Beauty of Handcrafted Wood - William Firth Woodcraft

If there’s one way to add warmth and character to our homes it has to be through the use of the wood with its natural textural qualities. And what better way to introduce it but in the form of useful accessories that have been lovingly handmade by skilled craftsmen. Today, I’m featuring one such skilled artisan, William Firth, who has an independent woodwork workshop based in the heart of Lancashire here in the UK.

I know I’ve rattled on before about being mindful about what we purchase for our homes in the pursuit of creating the perfect abode so I won’t ramble on too much here. However, I feel that in a world where we sometimes think nothing of buying for the sake of buying and disposing of with little care for our environment, we could, myself included, look to buy when we can with some meaning and consideration.

One way to do this is to seek out artisans who embrace the use of natural materials.  Artisans such as William Firth who not only apply their skills thoughtfully, they ensure that the raw, natural beauty of wood shines through in all its glory. Handcrafted designs that will last a lifetime and age beautifully whilst connecting with our senses both visually and through the power of touch.

There’s no denying the joy of beholding something that has been created by a skilled hand. Talented artisans are passing on a little piece of themselves making each design personable. Something you most definitely won’t find on the high street and you’ll want to cherish long after you’ve purchased it. Ready to find out more?

ABOUT WILLIAM FIRTH WOODCRAFT

Personalised Wooden Cake Stand by William Firth Woodcraft

William Firth Woodcraft is an independent woodwork workshop based in Scorton, Lancashire. Will is the creative behind the designs and this up and coming brand. His passion and inspiration came from watching his granddad turn bowls on his lathe which led to Will developing his own love for wood and fueled his desire to create.  Skills and creativity which even from a young age were apparent as he even made all of his own bedroom furniture as a teenager. Now that’s impressive considering the most my eldest did creatively in his teen years was to make a mess.

The Designs

Handmade Wooden Cake Knife – William Firth Woodcraft

William Firth Woodcraft creates a variety of useful products to adorn your home with. Each one is 100% handmade from start to finish using traditional methods, making each piece unique and individual as you are. The beauty of wood is that it has a story of its own from the tree, to the grain. It’s one that’s continued through the process of highly skilled craftsmen like William Firth who only use the highest quality woods, providing longevity to each lovingly handcrafted design. I also love the fact that their designs are timeless so you won’t ever have to worry about a piece not being on trend.

Handmade Wooden Teaspoons – William Firth Woodcraft

These wooden spoons are one of my absolute favourites from their collection. Whether you use it to stir your brew or eat your porridge, the teaspoon is a staple item in anyone’s home. William Firth have created their teaspoons completely by hand from Walnut, Maple or Beech. Each wood gives a completely different aesthetic, and slightly different texture. I’m thinking one of each rather than a set of one particular wood which would offer more interest to your dining experience whether it’s tea and cake or masterly perfecting a flat lay for all your Instagrammers out there. Each one provides a different look and to be able to utilise an everyday object that has been crafted by hand, together with the look and feel of natural wood is a wonderful thing to behold don’t you think?

The most important thing to us as a business is to ensure that we use the highest quality materials, processes and finishes to ensure our products last at least a lifetime. We are truly passionate about every item we create and want our customers to love the end products too! How gorgeous looking is this Handmade Long Serving Board? You really get to appreciate the beauty not only of the wood itself but it’s handcrafted form.  It’s a must-have useful piece for your kitchens and table settings. Perfect for displaying your latest culinary delights or as would be in my case some of M & S’s latest party food.  Made with love and care, it’s a piece that’s guaranteed to last a lifetime.

Wonky Serving Board – William Firth Woodcraft

Or why not opt for their Wonky Serving board with its shorter handle. It’s one of their most popular designs and I’m not surprised as this and the Long Handle Serving board are both fantastically priced at £25 each. Both are hand carved from a solid piece. They are cut from a plank and the rest of the shaping and finishing process is done completely by hand to ensure the final shape is comfortable yet unique.

Every single one of our products is 100% handmade from start to finish and is therefore unique. Each product has its own story and starts its own journey when it leaves our workshop. (William Firth Woodcraft)

Honey Dipper & Pot – William Firth Woodcraft

Being a huge honey lover, I have to admit that this is another William Firth’s designs that I’ve fallen in love with.  Their Honey Dipper and Pot would definitely enable you to indulge your daily addiction in style. The Dipper itself is turned from Beech on the Lathe and the pot is also Beech. The two different elements being created from the same timber provides a great consistency, and when the pot is filled with delicious honey, the products are truly complete.
