About Jenasie…

An Eclectic '70s Home Filled With Vintage Finds - Jenasie Earl | Vintage swag lighting and other eclectic decor create a unique and characterful living room.

Jenasie is a self-confessed lover of all things vintage and not surprisingly makes her living from sourcing and selling vintage items. As a result, she lives and breathes all things interior, design and decor.

Jenasie lives with her husband and her three children in a 1970’s split level house. It’s been their home for the past year and a half and already Jenasie has already made it truly unique to her and her family.

I don’t even know how to describe my style besides that if I love it I make it work. I draw a lot of inspiration from Victorian style and that world travelled eclectic vibe. I mix in a bit of mid-century for those nice clean lines, some boho for a laid back feel, and pretty much if it’s gaudy and gold I’ll take it!

Living Room

If there’s one space in Jenasie’s home that fills me with joy it has to be her fabulous living room. The architecture of their home features these floor to ceiling windows that envelop their open plan living space filling it with an abundance of natural light. Perfect for showing off her vintage finds.

Lighting…

An Eclectic '70s Home Filled With Vintage Finds - Jenasie Earl | Vintage finds create a living room space full of character and the unique.
Jenasie’s living room area has been created from second-hand purchases. The total cost for everything is under $1000.

As with any space, lighting is essential whether it be in a decorative form to add interest and/or to highlight certain focal points. Jenasie has done both with a clever mix of eclectic lighting styles. From the mid-century lights that frame the impressive fireplace to the vintage swag lights that create a wonderful decorative interest as well as providing an ambient glow to snuggle up on the sofa with.

Painted black, their stunning fireplace takes centre stage accentuating their double height ceiling. It also adds substance to the room and is the perfect backdrop to her vintage finds. Black is great for allowing colours to sing within a space as it does here with Jenasie’s vintage rug.

Choice vintage metallic objects add a touch of glamour and I’m coveting Jenasie’s fireguard. It’s a beautiful find.

I sell vintage, home decor, and antiques. Which is how I got into interior decorating. My job is to buy pretty things so, of course, I keep some treasures. And I seriously only buy/keep things if they are CHEAP. That’s why it takes me so long to transform a space because great homes do take time!

Meaningful Decor…

An Eclectic '70s Home Filled With Vintage Finds - Jenasie Earl | dining room filled with vintage furniture and eclectic vintage decor to create a unique and characterful home.

Jenasie’s approach to creating a home for her and her family isn’t influenced by trends or what’s hot and new in the interiors world. Its all about filling her home with meaningful objects as well as some fabulou furniture pieces that bring her joy. The result, a home that is truly unique and full of character.

Waiting for the right piece to come along does mean patience is key to decorating your home, especially if you’re on a budget. Jenasie has definitely mastered the art of waiting patiently. The jewel-toned vintage velvet sofas in her living room are a result of nearly two years of searching. She’s still pinching herself with these incredible finds and I’m not surprised. I’m obviously not looking hard enough or maybe I’m just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I may need some tips!

This home has given me so much inspiration with its bare bones alone. It’s slowly transforming into what my dreams are made of.

Considering, how patient and mindful Jenasie is with her finds, it’s good to know that she does have the odd splurge on an item or two. I personally see it as a reward for all her endeavours and well deserved too don’t you think?

I really pride myself on being able to have the style I love without breaking the bank. At the same time, if it makes your heart sing its worth it to splurge a little too.

Master Bedroom

An Eclectic '70s Home Filled With Vintage Finds - Jenasie Earl | Dark decor bedroom styled with vintage mirrors and lighting to create an asymmetrical arrangement to create more interest.

Jenasie’s bedroom is just as fabulous as her living room space. Vintage wall mirrors are grouped to provide a beautiful backdrop to another swag lighting design. This asymmetrical approach to styling is much more fun than the typical symmetrical approach most of us take. It creates more interest to our spaces.

Asymmetrical balance can be harder to achieve, but if itā€™s done well, it can make a space so much more interesting and alive. The reason for this is that it creates tension and surprise in a room with the visually unexpected.

Vintage mirrors and decorative vintage lighting add light reflective qualities and create a focal point to Jenasie’s bedroom.

Jenasie isn’t afraid of adding pops of colour and pattern into her decor choices either. Both enliven darker styled spaces like her bedroom. And styled together with that all-important design weapon, texture, Jenasie has created a wonderful retreat to relax and enjoy at the end of the day.

There are still more rooms to decorate and adorn but I hope you agree Jenasie has done a mighty fine job so far. You may want to go give her a follow and watch her interiors journey unfold over on Instagram here. I for one will be.

Thanks as always for stopping by and if you’d like to have your home featured, why not play along with @greathomestaketime and follow myself and the featured hosts on our home page.

Until next time, have a great week!
