Show Us Your Legs – Unique Bird Inspired Designs

January 27, 2017

How are we all? I hope the week has treated you kindly. I must admit I’m struggling with the groundhog days of winter darkness, cold, and wet on a continuous loop here in the UK. Let’s hope Spring pops its head round the corner soon!!

That’s me finished with the typically British moaning mention about the weather, let’s get on to today’s subject of legs. Bird legs to be exact…..

Show Us Your Legs – Unique Bird Inspired Design

There’s no doubt that birds are beautiful creatures, and we’ve been adorning our interiors for centuries with them. Me…. I am actually terrified of birds. Terrified, as in I once locked myself in the loo of my florist shop when a robin flew in, and had to ring for help.  You’ll be happy to know that I was eventually rescued, and thankfully no-one had decided to rob me of my lovely flowers or money.

Our fascination with birds has seemingly grown over recent years so much so, designers have taken to dissecting them right down to their legs……

The Ibride Ostrich Console Diva

This fabulous black Ostrich console table is from French designers Ibride. It’s certainly a unique design with it’s lower half representing that of an Ostrich by using intersecting laminated wood. The finely detailed set of Ostrich leg silhouettes and feathery behind really capture your attention, and would certainly be a feature piece. It’s designed with one flat side, so that the table is easily placed against the wall.

Good To Know: Also available in red and grey. Material: Wood laminate. Dimensions: W71 x H76 x D25cm. Design: Benoît Convers. Self-assembly required

Multa Lamp – Temple & Ivy

Available from Temple & Ivy

Don’t you just adore this feathery number by Ivy & Temple? Malta is a Flamingo made with Pewter material, with a glorious multicoloured shade. I have to admit, it was a difficult to choose from Temple & Ivy’s stunning array of unique bird legged lamp designs to feature in today’s post. Their design team take inspiration from a collection of historic ornithology books with exquisite drawings of African birds. If you’re smitten with the Malta design, wait until you see their delights on offer. I’d highly recommend checking out their website above.

Good to Know: Made to order. Height with shade: approximately 700 mm high. Overall ‘footprint’:  420mm wide

Traccia Table – Cassina

Still want one, but can’t afford the price tag? Then take a leaf out of the lovely Jayne Girginc’s book, whose amazing home I follow on Instagram. Jayne took inspiration from a lamp she had seen, and got herself her very own bird legged table made by local ironmonger’s.  It might not be a Traccia table, but I think it’s great nonetheless. Check out her feed here to see more fabulousness from her home.

Porta Romana VLB20 Duck Feet Lamp

These Duck Feet lamps just put a smile on your face don’t they? They add a fun and quirky element with a touch of class.  With a variety of shades to choose from, you are spoilt for choice should you find yourself unable to resist the temptation to #accidentlyshop. The Goose feather shade or the extra fluffy 12″ ostrich feather shades are my particular favourites.

Good To Know: Height: 530mm, With Shade: 870mm, Width: 330mm, With Shade: 356mm. Constructed From: Cast Composite with decorative finish. lampshade, 356mm x 356mm x 368mm

Bird Feet Display Stand/Candle Holder

Bird Feet Display Stand/Candle Holder £42

If you’re looking for a smaller way to feature some nature inspired bird legged design, then this Bird Feet Candlestick will certainly add a bit of drama to your homes. It features a flat platform, which can be used for pillar candles, or as it’s big enough, how about a cake or two? Perfect for those who have chosen to go over to the dark side with their interiors.

Good To Know: Dimensions: 20cm H x 23cm W x 19cm D. Material: Aluminium

What do you think…… Nature inspired design, albeit dissected at it’s best? Or do you prefer the whole bird?

Until next week, have a great weekend! Thanks, as always, for stopping by and for any likes, shares, comments or follows
