Hallways Interior Inspiration

Style Up Your Hallways!

March 5, 2019

When you think of your home as an unread book, the hallway is the opening chapter. Just like any beginnings, first impressions can count.

Our hallways are pathways to the rest of our homes and whilst we might not spend too much time in them, well apart from yelling at the kids to hurry up as you head out the door, they should bring you as much joy as the rest of your home. There’s really no reason not to include them with your interior updates.

Hallway – Jayne Girginc

Hallways can also one of the most neglected spaces. It’s more a case of we don’t reside there so we often decorate our hallways as an afterthought. But it’s really the one space you can let you hair down and add some personality. Whether it be bold and daring or just adding some finite detail that makes all the difference. Thinking of your hallways, (no matter how large or small), will have an impact not only on those that visit but yourself and those that live there too.

Style Up Your Hallways!

I’ve sought out some of my favourite Instagram accounts that show how they’ve incorporated their hallways as part of their homes. I hope you find them as inspiring as I have.

Kate’s Hallway of Dreams

Style Up Your Hallways!
Kate Hollingsworth aka @kate_hollingsworth_home Fabulous Entrance Hallway

We’re starting of with the largest of halls and probably one that you and myself can only dream off. Just look at all that space! There’s no single filing down this hall that’s for sure.

Let The Details Shine..

If, like Kate, you happen to have a period property that has original details still in place, let them shine through by keeping your decor choices neutral. Adding texture will lift and create additional interest which Kate has done with the likes of the sheepskin stool and baskets that house her plants.

Consider Seating…

Different forms of seating provide the feeling that the hallway is more than just a space to walk through but somewhere to sit and take time to contemplate. I for one would quite happily do just that.

Gallery Walls…

Gallery walls to the hallway and again repeated to the staircase provide a personal touch with an insight to those that live there. Remember to allow some negative space between gallery walls if you have more than one so that your hallways don’t feel too busy.

Fresh Blooms & Upcycled Delights – Mags aka @Glorygirl

Mags aka @Glorygirl – Entrance Hallway

Mags aka @glorygirl has created a hallway worthy of lingering in. Details such as adding fresh flowers can make all the difference especially if you’ve had a long day at work. There’s nothing like fresh floral scent to brighten your day or evening.

Mirrors…

We all know how mirrors help spaces feel larger. Opting for a decorative mirror will not only add interest but will help reflect and bounce light around. They’re also practical for that last minute check before you head out the door.

Up-cycled Furniture…

You don’t have to spend a fortune on hallway furniture either. Take a tip from Mags and look out for bargains on the likes of eBay. This unit was a bargain on eBay for £13 and with a bit of tender love and care has transformed this former Victorian washstand into a beautiful practical storage/ surface area for her hallway.

Mags home is definitely worth a follow and you check the rest of her home out here.

Fantasia Fun – Jayne Girginc

Eclectic Hallway – Jayne Girginc

When it comes to creating an eye-catching memorable entrance, Jayne has it off to a tee with her styling skills. Her ability to pull together different styles makes for an interesting and fun hallway. I’ve been following her for the last couple of years and her home in Turkey never ceases to amaze me for it’s creativity.

Statement Art…

Eclectic Hallway – Jayne Girginc

Adding one piece of larger/statement artwork to your entrance will have more of an impact than a gallery wall. Place it where you want to draw interest to and you’ll create a focal point in your hallway.

Artwork is also a great way to introduce colour and pattern to neutral spaces allowing you to swap things up without the expense of redecorating.

Decorative Lighting…

Lighting in any room is important and this includes your hallways. Jayne has taken inspiration from her Willy Wonka artwork for her lighting which creates a sense of cohesion without being contrived.

Using more than one pendant as Jayne has also helps draw the eye down the hallway. It’s also practical especially if you have little or no natural light entering your entrance halls.

When Small Can Be Cool & Pack A Punch! – Pati Robins

Style Up Your Hallways! Hallway styling inspiration from Pati Robins of her Eclectic dark small hallway.
Pati Robins – Eclectic Rock Glam Hallway

Eclectic Rock Glam – Pati Robins – Queen Of Maximalism & DIY

One of my favourite people on Instagram is Pati. Not only is she one of the most loveliest of supportive people on Instagram, her whole home is AMAZING and inspirational. Pati is Queen of DIY and creating a home on a budget and her hallway may be one of the tiniest (1 sqm) but it sure does pack a punch when it comes to her amazing styling skills.

Texture & Colour Pop

Pops of colour lighten and provide impact and as I’ve mentioned before texture is all important when it comes to darker spaces. The faux cacti are perfect for adding the all essential texture that darker spaces require to bring interest and life to them.

Flooring

Whilst you might think painting your hallways dark would make it feel smaller, Pati has added monochrome geometric patterned flooring that helps create the illusion of space. The angular patterns draw the eyes outwards and is a clever use of pattern to use when considering smaller hallway entrances.

Element of Fun

Like Jayne, Pati has also introduced some fun accessories and the bear side table just brings a smile to my face and hopefully yours. Hallways are a great place to introduce fun pieces like this too.

You can check out the rest of Pati’s amazing home here.

Elle Hervin – Clever Use of Space

Feminine Soft Muted Colour Cohesive Design

You may recall that I’ve featured Elle’s beautiful home before. Full of soft muted colours that are easy on the eye, you’d never know that Elle is mum to three boys. Proving that actually you can have your cake and eat it and should decorate your home according to your style and tastes.

Seating Nook

Elle has created a seating nook under the stairs perfect for the boys to snuggle up with a book or two or if I were Elle I’d use it as a place to escape from the kids. Either way, it’s a brilliant use of what is often unused space.

Hidden Storage

I love the practicality of this seating too as it provides hidden storage and is a great place for your little ones or yourself to sit and pop your shoes on before heading out the door.

Rugs

Rugs are a great way to introduce colour and pattern into your hallway spaces. They’re also great for hiding unsightly floors offering you a cheaper alternative to ripping them up.

You may also want to think about painting your entry door to complement your hallway decor. It’s a wonderful way to add a pop of colour too if you want to liven things up.

You have really reminded me that I need to update my hall. It’s really neutral and lacks personality for sure. Lovely eclectic ideas here. Very inspiring!

Mine is the same Donna, so really needed to write and research hallway styling to prompt myself to get going with ours!

I couldn’t agree more! It really is so important to make sure that the space you enter the house via is as wonderful as the rest of the house! First impressions really do count.

Wow so many ideas here! We have one of those “single file” hallways where no furniture would ever fit haha So detail on the walls is an absolute must!

    • Reply Maria March 19, 2019 at 10:22 am

Completely agree walls are your friend when it comes to narrow hallways 🤗

Hallways an often over looked and neglected space in a house. My hallway is minisucule (Victorian Terrace and less than 1m wide) so it’s all about the art work and the paint choice. Wonderful tips and inspiration Maria.

  • Reply Claire March 18, 2019 at 3:43 pm

“the hallway is the opening chapter” I love that! So so true! It set the scene doesn’t it, and give away so much of the people living in the house. Also can we take a moment for the hats-pendant, these are epic!

    • Reply Maria March 19, 2019 at 10:24 am

They most certainly are the opening chapter 😁 and yes!!! Jaynes hallway with her hat pendants are simply fabulous 🤩
