Being a lighting addict, and a lover of the natural world, I was thrilled to discover Blankture at the London Design Fair. These eye-catching lighting designs have taken their inspiration from nature in a decorative form, guaranteeing to attract my attention.
Swedish Designer, Jenny Schild is the founder of Blankture, and only launched her lighting collection in April this year, so I thought we’d show her some support tell you all about this talented designer. You might also be looking for some inspirational lighting for your homes so these might just be what you’re looking for. Ready to find out more?
Meet The Designer – BLANKTURE – Lighting Jewellery
The Designer – Jenny Schild
Jenny is a real inspiration not only as a designer but as a person who has sought out her dreams and made them a reality.
After years of working with multinationals both in London and Stockholm, Jenny knew that she wanted to create an interior design brand that would, in her words, ‘Embody the core values of quality, adventurous spirit and mindful design & production.’ Full transparency about Blanktures production is vital to her work, as it ensures you know what you are buying and how each purchase affects our planet and all who live here.
The Designs
I really love Jenny’s descriptive of her work as being Lighting Jewellery. Much like you would choose accessories to enhance an outfit, Blankture has designed their lighting range to enhance your spaces with their decorative jewel-like quality.
Jenny’s inspiration for her designs derives from her love and fascination with the nature and magic of the Caribbean. The process and manufacture reflecting Scandinavian design values and principles; ensuring the best quality materials and mindful production. Each piece is lovingly made in Stockholm by artisans and experts in their own fields.
“The blissful Caribbean, from the coast of Mexico to the island of Barbados possess an undeniable energy, beaming with a vibrant zest for life. With this range, I wanted to capture magical moments in time, distil them down to lighting jewellery pieces that would bring joy and wonder to your home.”
Eco-Friendly Design
Mindful of our environment, Blankture ensures that their products are as eco-friendly as possible. From refusing to use chemical preservatives and sourcing sustainable wood from the vast Scandinavian forests, to the use of recycled brass, their designs are mindful and caring of the world around us.
PLATONIC COLLECTION
Part of Blankture’s Caribbean Dawn Collection are these clever and versatile designs named Platonic, a reflection of Jenny’s love of Scandinavian design and the natural world of the Caribbean combined.
What’s great about this particular design is you can give this pendant and your room different looks by either interchanging the wooden dodecahedron inspired shapes to suit your mood or decor simply by stacking them along the textile cord.
I personally love a design that offers you flexibility. Of course, there is more to this design than its versatility. Detail has been added through the use of etched recycled brass which contrasts beautifully with handmade vegetable tanned leather details.
THE PIECES
CHARCOAL BLACK: The burnt wood finish is uniquely decorative, it enhances the grain of the wood and has a sheen which shifts in charcoal and brown tones. It is achieved with the ancient Japanese technique Shou Sugi Ban which originally was used to preserve wooden exteriors. It is also environmentally friendly as the use of chemical preservatives, paints and fire retardants are made redundant.
DRIFTWOOD GREY: The inspiration for this finish comes from the beautiful tree branches that have been shaped by salt & sand on sun-drenched beaches. The wood is sandblasted to bring out the wood grain and finished off with a semi-gloss paint which is produced in EU and is certified by Svanen.
GRENADINE BLUE: The sheen and depth of the deep blue sea basking in sunlight are mirrored in this Grenadine Blue finish. The wood is sandblasted to bring out the wood grain and finished off with a high-gloss paint which is produced in EU and is certified by Svanen.
“BLANKTURE is an adventure, a blank sheet of paper with untold possibilities. The pieces are the result of explorations of unused spaces, an obsession with mindful production and an ever-persistent passion for the details that make a home yours. With hope to shine a light on the beauty & wonder that surround us”
SHADOW CASTERS – PLAY WITH SHADOWS
I admit to being a bit of a magpie and being instantly drawn to anything shiny and bright so it’s no surprise that the Palmorama and Fan of Coral designs from Blankture’s Shadowcasters Collection captured my eye at the London Design Fair. The detail of these intricately designed brass lighting designs create a wonderful show of shadow pattern upon your ceilings. Perfect for the darker months ahead with their warm and inviting ambience.
Available in two sizes, you can place these brass designs anywhere along the cord, which in turn provides you with the freedom to be as creative as you’d like. How cool is that?
You could use one as a statement piece in your home or maybe up the ante and cluster a few together for greater impact. You have a choice of two designs from the Shadowcaster collection. Palmorama which has taken its inspiration from the Caribbean royal palm tree or the Fan of Coral with its intricate shapes inspired by the beauty of our oceans.
Until next time, thanks for stopping by!
