We’re finishing off the year with a fabulous house tour of Manda Collins and her Moody meets Glam home on the outskirts of Amsterdam. This is the last post before the bedroom reveal which means I’ll be
Moody Meets Glam – The Bold and daring Home of Manda Collins
Today’s house tour is as a result of the @greathomestaketime Instagram page that I co-host with the lovely, @melmitchima @happyeclectichome and @basketsandbrassvintage. Manda is our November winner which meant she won @basketsandbrassvintage Etsy voucher and, of course, a feature here on the blog.
About Manda aka Moody Magpie
With a degree in law, Manda worked for corporates for nearly two decades until she gave in to her true love of interiors and design. Her passion for the unique and obscure works of art actually started from a very young age and was
Years of visiting flea markets, antique shops fed Manda’s passion and so it’s no surprise that her family seaside home outside Amsterdam is a result of her love for the unusual away from the usual mainstream pieces that adorn most homes.
Ultimately, it has meant that Manda’s family home is a curation of what she loves rather than following any rule book especially when it comes to her ability to mix up styles from different periods.
From a very early age my burning passion was interior design and when my friends were spending their money on shoes and booze, I was hunting for unique pieces of furniture or obscure works of art.
As a result of her love of interiors, Manda now runs her own styling business www.moodymagpie.com as well as selling art and vintage finds. And there are some absolutely fabulous pieces to choose from too… if only I hadn’t spent so much on the bedroom!
Manda has broken away from any rule book when it has come to designing her home. Lending herself to blending different styles and taking a fearless approach when it comes to designing her own home.
Manda has developed a specific interest in mid-century pieces and has taken every opportunity over the years to track down one of a kind designs as well as art pieces.
My style can be described as a bit of moody meets glam, eclectic and hollywood regency. Bold and daring – don’t settle for mediocrity !
Our homes should evolve over time and Manda has an obsession for changing things up with hers. From finding a new spot for a piece of art or introducing a new colour or pattern into the equation. Experimenting like this allows us to really get to know what we want, what works for you in terms of your style and how you use and live in your homes.
Allowing yourself the freedom to express yourself, as Manda has, provides a real sense of self rather than being a follower of trends, or worrying about thinking of what others may think. I really love this approach and
My approach to colour, patterns and textures has helped me to develop what many consider a unique, quirky and eclectic style. Midcentury cool meets cozy sophistication!
I love Manda’s kitchen where she has extended the kitchen island by placing the dining table up against it. It provides a sense of flow from preparation to dining. It’s also a great place for friends and family to hang out whilst cooking.
I love mixing and matching – good style doesn’t need to cost the world
Manda Collins
Manda managed to find space in her kitchen to introduce some relaxed seating with this gorgeous pink sofa which provides softer lines to her kitchen space.
I also love all the wonderful textures and patterns that Manda has introduced through the use of artwork and soft furnishings. It makes for a really inviting space to hang out and spend time with family and friends.
Manda’s family home is one that is truly filled with meaningful finds that fit with her family’s lifestyle and the properties aesthetics where they’ve made use of the abundance of natural light from large-scale windows to artwork and accessories that adorn the walls and surfaces that add interest and character. A kaleidoscope of styles that Manda has seamlessly blended together.
It’s easy to label Manda’s style as eclectic but ultimately it is so much more. It is a home that is has been created with a passion and appreciation for design on all levels and, I for one love it. You can follow Manda and her design journey over on Instagram here.
If you’d like to have your home featured, why not join in over on Instagram with the @greathomestaketime with myself and my cohosts.
Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas that is filled with love and happiness.
