5 Ways to Use Natural Woven Materials to Create A Warm & Welcoming Home

No matter what your style, most of us want to create a warm and welcoming home. It’s actually very easy to implement just by adding a few natural materials to your spaces. Today’s focus is on woven materials such as wicker, and rattan, which add texture, depth and interest to create those warm vibes.

SEATING/FURNITURE

Woven materials have seen a revival in many shapes and forms, and some such as the classic Wishbone chair below, have never really gone out of date.

I can’t tell you how much I love this dark style space above. These iconic Hans J. Wegner Wishbone chairs just lift the whole of the space. Each Wishbone chair uses nearly 400 feet of paper cord in its construction. They are truly a masterpiece in chair design and offer any space some textural contrast.  Check out Aram’s website where they also have limited edition colours available.

Wicker/rattan furniture has come a long way from the typical conservatory and is being utilised in a variety of ways to enhance our homes. It’s definitely become more light and stylish.

This amazing kitchen space styled by Emma Fischer  uses an Ikea woven bamboo Sinnerlig pendant to create some textural interest/ contrast. Kitchen spaces are predominately smooth shiny surface materials so utilising some natural materials here, helps add a more homely feel to these spaces.  Bamboo is such a wonderful eco-friendly material and you can read more about here in one of my earlier posts.

One of the oldest crafts known to civilisation is basket weaving. Creating a wall gallery out of baskets whether old or new, is not only a brilliant way to display a collection, but in some instances, they are works of art in themselves. I particularly love this colourful gallery above.

Or opt for more natural toned baskets which still create a wonderful display. Providing texture, and depth to your walls.

STORAGE

We can all benefit from storage, and if you’re looking to introduce some woven goodness into your homes, then some sturdy baskets like those above, might just be key to a tidy, and beautiful home. Much better than those awful plastic boxes.

We all need storage for those bits and bobs that tend to float around our homes and these modern baskets are spot on spot for storing it all. Storage hasn’t ever looked so good. I’m especially loving the sequin version above, available from Quince Living who have a whole host of wicker funky storage. These would also look great with plants popped inside.

Use a natural sisal rug as a base to layer upon and add depth, interest and richness to your home.  The Alternative Flooring company offer a huge range of different natural woven carpets, runners and bespoke rugs on offer.

Woven natural rugs are hard-wearing and with a number of different types to choose from. Sisal shown above actually comes from the agave plant and is super strong fibre.

That’s all from me this week. Until next time, thanks for stopping by!
