Nominated For Best Written Blog – Amara Blog Awards

August 7, 2019

OH WOW, I’ve been nominated for Best Written Blog for the Amara Blog Awards. Considering I’ve been awol on here for the past few weeks, (I’m revealing why at the end of this post), I’m completely blown away with this nomination. So if it was you, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

You, my lovely reader, have been the driving force behind all the hours I’ve spent researching, styling, shooting and more importantly, writing. Without you, it’d all seem pretty pointless right? You are ultimately why I write and, I have to say, I’ve loved every moment.

A MASSIVE THANK YOU!

Nominated For Best Written Blog - Amara Blog Awards | Maria Jones The Interior Editor busy at writing
Poking yourself in the face with a pen can often bring out the best when writing as does having coffee on tap!

I’d like to thank each and everyone of you that take the time to pop by and read the blog as well as your massive support on social media with your likes, comments and shares. Time really does fly and I can’t believe the blog is now 3 years old. I’ve met so many lovely people in the real and virtual world as a result of my ramblings. Every one of you have in some way shape or form, inspired, motivated and given purpose to my writings, so thank you! It’s so easy to doubt yourself when sitting at a keyboard by yourself and knowing that you are there has been my driving force!

As ever, I’d also like to thank the poor I.E. Hubs who has been subjected to proofreading my posts as well as having to listen to me go on and on about interiors since forever!

We’re On The Move!

Bedroom Makeover – The Interior Editor

I’m on the move! Yes, I know completely out of the blue considering we’ve only just redesigned our bedroom space. To be honest, it wasn’t planned, it just kind of happened. This probably deserves a post all of its own and I may just well write a more in-depth one once we’ve moved. But for now just so you know, I’m actually still here its just life has gotten in the way of my best intentions of writing. Just to give you a littel insight into whats been happening…..

The Perils of Falling In Love… With A House!

Back in April, we came across what we thought was our dream forever home 50+ miles away from where we live in the heart of West Sussex. A beautiful Victorian house which, unbeknown to us at the time, is/was owned by a well-known celebrity. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this was a good thing either. Celebrities, regardless of their wealth and the persona they portray to the public, are not always as you’d hope or expect.

With months of constant foot-dragging, combined with untruths being told about the land to the property being kept on the premise of protecting the natural landscape. It was, later we discovered being sold to a local wannabe property developer. You’d have thought we’d run a mile at that point but we didn’t. We were totally blinded by our love for the house. Shocking I know, but then we got the reality check we needed. A 21-page damning structural survey report. It made us wake up to the extent of the work that was needed. It was time to think with our heads and not our hearts. We learnt a very valuable lesson from this costly exercsie. It made us reevaluate what we actually wanted from life and decided to opt for lifestyle over renovation.

When Schools Out For Summer!

Our only problem was we’d secured a school space for our son 50+ miles away from where we currently live. You can imagine the panic as all the deadlines for secondary school spaces had passed, and it now being the summer holidays. We had no choice but to try and find somewhere and fast!

With just over a month to find a home that ticked all the boxes, we were fortunate enough to come across a thatched house less than 100m from the sea a couple of weeks ago. Yes, it needs updating, but we won’t have to be dealing with subsidence, asbestos and damp. We’re now literally rushing to get everything done before the dreaded school start date. It’s basically all hands on deck to make it happen!

I’ll Be Back…

Of course, all of this has meant my having to prioritise my personal life over writing my usual blog posts. To produce them takes time and more importantly to me, they have to have meaning. I saw no point in rushing and writing for the sake of writing. For me, my articles are more than just the words I type, they are a combination of various processes that I like to take time to achieve.

Normal service will resume asap and with so many ideas whizzing around my head, I can’t wait to get back to writing again.

Until then, thank you!

Maria xx
