I’m doing a bit of forward thinking today (which is a rarity in itself) and it has to do with the news that the daughter is flying the nest or should I say the departure lounge that was the eldest sons bedroom, that became hers and which will now become the youngest’s. His words “bigger bedroom” are still ringing in my ears from when I told him of his sister’s announcement. Mine was of how did my baby girl suddenly become all grown up overnight!
Of course, I’m now faced with the advent of both eldest children coming to stay with their respective partners at some stage in the future. The fact that they’ll not all fit into the smaller bedroom or indeed on the sofa poses a bit of a problem. With the youngest son’s vision completely set upon the bigger bedroom, they’ll be no way of getting him out of there once we’ve moved his stuff across. He has, after all, waited 10 years to arrive there and once he’s bedded himself in that will be that for the next 8 years with of course the odd emergence for food and water.
The Perfect Hidden Guest Bed – Loaf
I’m not presuming that you have the same departure lounge problems we have, but you might have reached the stage in your life where going out actually means staying in. The setting up of a disco in your lounge with your fellow middle youth mates does, of course, mean the dad dancing stays in the house but there is the problem of the ones that have had one too many or to be fair have travelled a distance to get to yours.
I’ve featured a bed in a box before but this time, I’ve upped my web searching skills to accommodate more than the one overnight stayer. I didn’t have to look far as Loaf has just introduced a new range of perfectly hidden guest beds in the form of the versatile footstool.
The Perfect Hidden Guest Bed – Loaf
Loaf has become synonymous with comfort and a laid-back style with their gorgeous range of sofas and beds that just looking at them make you want to sink into them. They’ve recently bought out a new range of hidden beds to compliment their sofas and chairs.
Loaf’s designs are handmade here in the UK which means you’ll be supporting UK craftmanship which for me is always a win-win as it helps keep artisan skills alive in this country.
Bed In A Button
One that has caught my eye is the Bed In A Button as it solves the problem of couples staying overnight. Beneath the deeply padded hand upholstered surface hides a double bed ready to spring into action with very little effort.
It’s also available in a single size if space is at a premium and with a whopping 158 fabrics to choose from you might have more of a hard time deciding than you might have thought.
Thankfully, they also do a selection of clever fabrics ranging from on-trend luscious velvets to clever woolly wool fabrics. Ideal for busy homes that have spillages (like ours) these fabrics have water-repellent properties which allow fluids to merely roll off. They also happen to be incredibly durable too!
Obviously, a double footstool that turns into a double bed will require more space so you’ll need to ensure that you have the room for it to unfold. If not, you could always opt for the single and put one on the sofa.
The great thing with these footstools/hidden guest beds is that you have the freedom to move them around which enables you to put someone up in a different room or area of a room, unlike a sofa bed.
Either way, you’ll end up with not only a spare bed for guests, you’ll also have somewhere to put your feet up in the meantime, or if that’s not allowed in your house, turn it into a coffee table for your G&T’s. There’s also the use as extra seating that these footstools provide for those who prefer to watch the dad dancing rather than partake.
Bed In A Bun
If you’re not keen on the buttoned look, there’s the aptly named Bed In A Bun with its marshmallow plump top that provides a more streamlined and modern look to your homes.
For us, this would not only work in our living room, it would also look great in what is soon to become our spare guest room. Although the plan is to actually turn it into a dressing room and do away with the single bed that’s in there. This footstool would make a great seating bench and allow more freedom of movement around the room to use it as a dressing room. It can easily be transformed into a bed as and when needed as we only require an occasional bed.
SPACE SAVING: If you have a spare room that needs to put up the occasional night visitor, it makes sense to invest in furniture that not only saves and frees up space, but provides you with the freedom to use the room for other uses such as a home office/dressing room. It also helps save on dressing the bed and/or it getting dusty from little use.
Dusk Day Bed
A less plump affair with subtle button detailing is the Dusk Day Bed. Unlike the others featured above, it’s only available in a double. If you’re after additional seating for say an alcove or bay window this would work well as a stand-alone piece of furniture just add some cushions a side table and floor lamp and you could create a cosy reading corner.
Of course, there’s always the trusted sofa bed which if you had the space you could add any of the above footstool/hidden beds to and create a camp in your living room.
All of these designs are perfectly hidden away so that you can enjoy the space around them when not in use. And if you prefer your guests to go home at the end of the night, you don’t have to let them know that you have a hidden bed to sleep on.
Have a fabulous week and here’s to all the sunshine we’ve been having!
Thanks for stopping by!

These are amazing! Who knew sofa beds could be so stylish! 😍
Aren’t they just Sam! Perfect for the overnight guest/s :D
First of all: be strong, a baby girl leaving her home is no small thing so wishing best of luck to her and looking forward to hearing how you cope with this!! Now, guest beds: really liked the bed in a button and agree that the top of the footstool looks ace as a ‘headboard’!
Thanks so much Jenny! It’s going to be a tough one when she finally moves but then I guess it’s my own fault for having raised a strong independent young lady ;) Yes, the bed in a button does it for me on looks and style too. x
What a major milestone, and certainly a big family event. I wish my parents had invested in something like this for my return visits, totally love it!
Thanks Nicola it most certainly feels like it! Glad you like Loaf’s new range :D
Such a clever idea to hide a bed in a stylish piece of furniture like that. Great for space saving where you don’t have room to keep a bed out all the time.
They are definitely great for when space is at a premium and totally agree they are super stylish :D
I love loaf they never compromise on style and quality and those colours are just divine x
Thanks Pati, Loaf are certainly a brand that offers you the most! x
My kids are only 2 and 4 and I’m already dreading the day they finally leave home! Hope it’s not too much of an ordeal for you and your family! But as far as guest beds go…how cool!!!! I would never have guessed there was a double bed inside those tiny footstools! Great idea from loaf!
It certainly makes you aware of how quickly our little ones grow up! Luckily for you, you have quite a few years before that happens :D Loaf have come up trumps for sure with these hidden guest beds, the difficult part being which colour/style :D x
These are so ingenious, every home should have one!
I agree Becky! They’re perfect for unexpected/planned guests :D
Wow these are brilliant! I love how compact they are before they turn into a bed. Genius.
I’ve looked at both of these and they are such good solutions for a guest bed. In the end I had a trundle because often it’s two kids staying. I like the fact you can “hide” them in plain sight!
Hi I’m Sherise Clarke , I need this in my life
I love this furniture, but live in the USA 😢.
