It goes without saying that here in the UK as soon as the sun decides to show itself, the men instantly don their shorts (the Hubs included), we head outdoors in our droves and there’s a constant hum of lawn mowers in motion, as well as the masses that then hit the garden centres. And who can blame us when the weather is as temperamental as ours?
Affordable Designs For Your Outdoor Spaces
So now we’ve come out of hibernation, I thought we’d take a look at some affordable pieces for our outdoor spaces, we are after all a nation of garden lovers and we’re looking to styling and treating them more than ever as an extension of our homes. Ready for a bit of outdoor inspiration?
Comfort
If you’ve ever tried to get into a hammock then you’ll know there’s an actual art to getting in and out, and its one that I haven’t quite mastered yet. But when you combine a hammock and a swing chair life is made that little bit easier so you can sit back, relax and enjoy. AND this hanging chair by VonHaus is a complete and utter bargain to the point where I had to do a double take. It’s ONLY £19.99!! (apologies for the capital letter shouting but really how amazing is that!) And how cool would this look in a teenagers bedroom or a relaxed living space inside your home?
It’s made from breathable 100% cotton fabric that features a nautical inspired blue and white stripe, that brings a little feel of the coast to your garden. It includes a weight levelling bar to help distribute weight more evenly so hopefully no toppling or falling out of it.
There’s nothing like adding some additional seating to any space whether it’s indoors or outside for those unexpected guests. This crotchet effect pouffe is perfect for both as it has a plastic underside that means you can use it on grass without worrying about staining or it getting damp. Being a tactile person, I love the crafted look woven texture and, of course, it’s neutral in colour means you don’t have to worry about it clashing with your outdoor or indoor spaces for that matter as it’s a great versatile piece for both. Priced at £57 it’s worth it for its indoor-outdoor versatility.
For smaller outdoor areas such as balconies, this reversible rug from Audenza hits the mark. Perfect for an instant makeover that will add visual interest and focal point to your outside spaces with its vibrant colour and eye-catching pattern. It’s made of durable polypropylene and is a steal at £18.95.
Keep Evening Chills At Bay
Once the sun has shone for a least a day, we declare that summertime has officially begun which inevitably leads to prolonging our stay outdoors into the evening because that’s what we in the UK do best (stiff upper lip and all that). Even though it gets decidedly chilly, if not bleeding freezing. So what better way to keep yourselves and friends warm than with a fire pit. This one is from Domus and adds a modern geometric vibe to your gardens and comes complete with protective mesh spark guard and heat-resistant poker. It’s made from steel and complemented by a classic black finish and you can burn logs or charcoal to keep you going until you really have to go in! Price: £54.90
Light Up Your Outdoors
I’ve shown you these rather fabulous lanterns before and I’m including them again today as it’s for a good cause as every sale goes to Sue Ryder, a very worthy charity that supports people with complex needs and life-threatening illnesses across the UK and internationally. (You can read more here.)
They’re a modern take on a classic hurricane lamp, with a polished steel finish, which reflects sunlight elegantly, whilst a candle inside will create a complimenting soft and inviting warm glow. At 62cm tall (including handle) this candle holder is the perfect statement piece for weddings or parties as well as your indoor/outdoor spaces. Price: On Sale £12.99 at time of writing, normal price £24.99 so go grab yourself a bargain and support Sue Ryder!
On Trend Planters
Terrazo is more commonly used for flooring, but we’ve seen an emergence of it in other decorative forms and I’m personally loving it. Made.com have embraced this trend and brought you this fabulous terrazzo window planter so you can keep your plants in style. The playful multi-coloured finish is thanks in part to recycled Heineken bottles that create its green flecks. The Savannah collection features planters and window boxes in a range of shapes and sizes, perfect for those who like to build on a theme. Price £35
Or why not create your own living wall with these wall planters. They’re the perfect self-watering planter for adding some greenery to your walls indoors and out. Great for hiding an unsightly wall or fence in your garden or maybe use them to grow your own vegetables or summer fruits. This hanging planter has 3 pockets to start you off and are available from Dobbies at the end of April. They currently have an offer of buy 3 at £7.99 each. Usual price £9.99.
I love the concept of this design and how it can help with our decreasing bee population. It’s a stylish nesting and resting place for solitary bees, designed as a planter so that you can put your pollinator friendly planting right on the doorstep for the bees. Designed and made by Cornish company Green & Blue and winner of the Soil Association innovation award. It’s available in 3 colours and is priced at £35
Solitary bees are facing massive decline, in part due to habitat loss. By having the Beepot mini in your garden, allotment or urban space you are helping the bees by providing a bee house nesting place for them so they can continue with the vital pollination work they do. Solitary bees are also fascinating to watch and safe to encourage around children and pets as they are non-aggressive. They have no honey or queen to protect meaning they have nothing to defend. (Green And Blue)
I love the geometric design of this plant pot as it would work well indoors as well as outside. I’m always looking for alternative planters and I like how the plant pot floats between the supporting framework and how you can use the frame to trail plants upwards. Price: £21.00
Are you ready to head on outside and enjoy the sunshine and which one of today’s affordable designs would you go for? I think I’d go for the nature-loving mini bee house.
