Sue Ryder Online - Affordable Home Finds

We all love a bargain from time to time don’t we and for some of us (myself included), charity shops are brilliant for doing just that.

Whether you are bargain hunter or strapped for cash, charity shops are fab places to shop and more importantly you’ll be supporting great causes in the process. They’re also great for donating your unwanted goods and helping charities with much-needed resources and I regularly purge the house to help our local ones.

Sue Ryder Online – Affordable Home Finds

Recently, I came across a charity that is taking charity shopping experience that one step further by providing us with affordable, brand new interior related homewares, furniture and accessories.  Sue Ryder has set up an online shop so that no matter where you live in the UK you can grab yourself a bargain and help an extremely worthy cause in the process.

If you’re looking to update your home on a budget and or want to shop with a conscience, Sue Ryder’s online shop may just be your new place to shop.

Facts

Founded in 1953 by Sue Ryder,  this charity that supports people with complex needs and life-threatening illnesses across the UK and internationally. It operates specialist palliative care centres, care centres for people with complex conditions, home care services and a growing number of community-based services.

  • They have over 11,000 volunteers at their hospices and care centres.
  • They care for more conditions than any other UK charity
  • They provide 2.5 million hours of care to thousands of people every year.

Their Work

Sue Ryder does some incredible work which you can read here, but I’ve also included a couple of their stories below. Warning you may need to grab a tissue or two…… or the whole box like I did….

Stuart

Stuart came to one of our hospices to attend the day therapy service, but before the end of his scheduled 12 sessions, his condition deteriorated and he was admitted to the inpatient unit. At that point, his wife put work on hold and we moved her into the hospice to be beside Stuart 24 hours a day. After 10 days, we moved more beds into Stuart’s room so his children could stay with him, too. He passed away, knowing his precious family were by his side. And they knew he felt totally loved at the end of his life. The family told us they felt so lucky to have been able to do this.

A mum….

at one of our neurological centres was very ill, but desperate to attend her son’s wedding. What’s more, it was being held 300 miles away in Devon, so the challenges were huge. However, every hurdle was overcome by the staff team at the care centre, who persevered for six months until every detail was in place. A suitable nursing home in the area was found and arrangements made for the mum to stay there overnight. A private ambulance was booked, and a bed and breakfast was found for the two neuro centre staff who would need to accompany her. They talked to the vicar and made sure the seating at the church was organised to accommodate her wheelchair. And they even went shopping for a dress and matching hat. It was a beautiful wedding and the mum had a lovely time – made even lovelier by her son’s happiness that she could be there to see him walk down the aisle.
