There’s something to be said about tiles in our homes. Their durability and low maintenance, particularly in high traffic areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and hallways make them invaluable especially if you have a family or pets.
Decorative tiles, in particular, have become hugely popular in recent years with lots of bolder, colourful patterns widely available. However, these designs can be hard to live with especially across larger surface areas where they can become visually overwhelming. You may well have put off using them considering tiles are more costly than paint or wallpaper and the fact that tiles, once applied, will be up or down (dependent upon where you are using them) for quite some time.
With this in mind, I’ve been doing a bit of tile hunting and came across Original Style who have just released their capsule collections that provide a solution to those of you wanting a decorative tile that’s not only easy on the eye but adds interest and subtle pattern and has timeless qualities attributed to them.
Timeless Decorative Tiles – Original Style’s Capsule Collections
If you’re loving the wallpaper trend for introducing colour and pattern into your homes but are in need of a more durable and practical solution then Original Style may have come up trumps for incorporating both. They’ve launched eight capsule collections of large format tiles designed to appeal to different lifestyles and decor tastes.
Original Style’s capsule collections are curated from large format tiles which are great at making a room look and feel more spacious as there are fewer grout lines interrupting the flow of decorative tiles.
I thought we’d have a peek at four of the new collections Palazzo, Maison, Opera and Eden. All of which boast beautiful patterns and provide a stunning, practical alternative to wallpaper in any stylish bathroom or kitchen. To complement the range each collection has a plain coordinating tile to go alongside each pattern.
Original Style are based here in the UK in the heart of Devon where all their designs are created, produced and delivered by their in-house teams. The tile patterns are printed on-site in their dedicated printing unit in Exeter. You needn’t worry if you live outside the UK as they have stockists/deliver worldwide.
Decorative tiles are as transformative as wallpaper but with the added bonus of durability and longevity. An investment in your homes that can add value and style to areas that need it the most.
Palazzo
If you’ve been loving the ongoing marble trend or are looking to add a touch of luxury to your bathrooms or downstairs loo Original Style’s PALAZZO collection might be the one for you. Inspired by the grand palatial buildings of Italy, it’s available in a mix of 6 traditional and glamorous designs. All patterns in this collection look as if they have been inlaid on classical Carrara marble, bringing a touch of luxury to a bathroom.
I’m loving this collection purely because it offers you the aesthetics of marble without the care as it’s a ceramic tile ensuring you don’t have the care issues or maintenance that natural stone requires. Oh, and they’re a lot more affordable too!
Ceramic Tiles are made from clay or clay and other raw materials, which are shaped and fired to give strength and aesthetic beauty.
Maison
Or perhaps you prefer the softer muted look with Original Style’s the MAISON collection. Inspired by French blue designs it’s made up of 3 designs printed on a softly textured off-white base tile. The Maison is perfect for adding effortless elegance with understated patterns and subtle flourishes.
For me, the softer blue and off-white colouring of this collection are reminiscent of Toile de Joie. The good thing is the combination of subtle colour and allow you to go larger with the motif (as above) without a room becoming overwhelmed with it. In fact, going larger with pattern can help add a sense of space to a smaller room.
TIP: Playing it safe by using smaller patterns on one wall can make a room feel smaller. Try choosing a larger pattern to create a sense of space.
Opera
OPERA, on the other hand, provides a modern twist on classics, with three different prints available in two colourways – subtle grey and off-white. This collection was inspired by the faded grandeur and timeless fabrics – an elegant statement with a fashionable, distressed look.
Eden
And finally my favourite EDEN. The lush and leafy designs of this collection bring a tropical paradise to the bathroom. There are three patterns available; Glade is a delicate bouquet of ferns, Pergola has trailing fronds, and Hothouse is a riot of palm leaves.
Have I tempted you to introduce decorative tiles to your home? Which one is your favourite?
Until next time, thanks for stopping by!
