Some 4.38 million people go camping in Britain every year, according to Visit Britain and that includes me and my family. We’re now in our 8th year which comes as a surprise considering our first experience was one of a badly erected tent that resembled the Telly Tubby’s abode and an overflowing potty. The threat of the tent being torn down every time the Hubs attempted to stand up and got doused by the growing condensation was also very real. Of course, the children loved every minute of it and so began the start of our camping or should I say glamping journey.
Camping In Style – Home Comforts
If there’s one thing I’ve learnt its to try and add some home comforts to our glamping trips. You might not be able to pack the entire contents of your home because of having to squeeze all the living equipment and day-to-day necessities into the car but changing a few things up so that it feels a little more homely can help with your camping experience.
I’ve put together some alternatives to what you’d find in the camping shop that you’d happily use at home which also saves on loft space.
Eat
Don’t limit yourself to camping shops for your tableware, think about designs that are durable enough for the campsite but also good enough for your table at home.
Ditch those plastic plates and opt for some beautiful monochrome stylish plates to eat your sausages from. These bamboo plates from Audenza are eco-friendly and they’re so good you can use them at home. They come in a set of 6, complete with three contemporary designs, so you will receive 2 of each pattern. Price: £29.95
Drink
You can’t beat a brew whilst on holiday so don’t forget to take a teapot. This durable enamel one is perfect for your morning cuppa. On sale £41.97
Opting for a few choice accessories will help make your camping experience more enjoyable if not bearable.
Add some colour with your morning cuppa with this fabulous Frida Kahlo stainless steel mug. A symbol of feminism, as well as a gay icon, her naïve folk art, represented Mexican popular culture and following her death in the 1950’s her art and unmistakable style has become increasingly more popular across all demographics. Although the format of the design is Kahlo-esque, the enamel hand-painting derives from a traditional style that originated in Iran. £16.99
And Be Merry
VonShef Set of 2 Brushed Gold Champagne Glasses Elegant design features a long stem and brushed satin interior and exterior which is highly resistant to tarnishing. – Domu
Guaranteed that once you’ve managed to erect that tent, you’ll be wanting or should I say be needing to celebrate with a tipple or two. Instead of the cheap plastic glass lookalikes why not opt for these high-quality stainless steel champagne flutes (wine/cocktail glasses also available). Completely shatterproof and perfect for camping being made from stainless steel makes them heavier than glass. With less chance of accidentally tipping your drink over – so you can concentrate on enjoying every delicious sip.
Another camping problem can be keeping your drinks cold, No need to worry about your freshly poured choice of drink turning warm before its time either, as the stainless steel glasses will help to keep your drink refreshingly chilled. Owing to their durability, the glasses not only make a great kitchen staple but are also perfect for picnics, parties, camping trips, boat trips or unwinding in the garden. Price: £14.99 for two
Accessories
Create a pretty and relaxing area for lounging around inside or outside of the tent. Invest in a good quality plastic backed picnic rug that can be easily picked up and moved and add a few cushions for comfort.
There’s nothing like Pure new wool to bring a little luxury to your camping experience and with the benefit of a waterproof backing you’ll be ensured of comfort and no dampness. Ideal for larger families this rug is large enough to accommodate several adults and easily rolls up into an easy to carry bundle. The throws with their traditional fringe and the colourful leather straps are Made in the UK. It’s available in 12 gorgeous colours too.
Lighting
Add some fun lighting with battery operated lighting like this Star LED neon light which is available in pink or white. Price: £14.99.
Sleep
Ditch the sleeping bag and opt for a proper duvet and pillows. Unless you have a tiny car, you’ll find they don’t take up much room at all and can make all the difference to a good night’s sleep.
We’re off glamping again in a couple of weeks which will be our third time this year and we can’t wait to see this view again.
Until next time, thanks for stopping by!
