And we’ve made it to Friday lovely people. And, if you’re anything like us you’ll be hanging out in your kitchen either cooking some well-deserved treats or feeding your ever-hungry brood. Considering kitchens are one of the biggest investments we will make for our homes, I’m incredibly excited to reveal The Real Kitchen Company’s latest The Real Green kitchen today.

I came across this brilliant sustainable kitchen whilst visiting 100% Design last month.  Made entirely from one of the world’s most sustainable resources bamboo, I had to take a closer look and I thought you might too. Ready?…

The Real Green Kitchen – 100% Sustainable Design

If you’ve never heard of the The Real Kitchen Company before, they are highly trained cabinet makers that produce tailor-made kitchens as well as other furniture solutions such as bespoke bedrooms, bathrooms, libraries and studies.

The Real Kitchen Company are based in Ripley, Derbyshire and have a reputation for only using the finest quality timbers when it comes to their highly skilled craftsmanship. Sustainability is key throughout all their designs and not just with the kitchen we’re looking at today.

 

The Real Green – Bamboo Kitchen Design

To add to their repertoire, they have recently ventured into using bamboo as a primary material to create a unique and environmentally friendly kitchen. They’ve aptly named it The Real Green and it may be one that you may want to consider investing in your home in the future. It’s the first of its kind here in the UK and I’ve seriously fallen in love with it.

Bamboo is a fantastic material to construct furniture with and whilst we have seen it filtering through in the form of smaller furniture design concepts such as side tables and chairs, this has to be the first fully constructed kitchen using this 100% environmentally friendly material.

If there’s one place in our homes that sees a lot of activity it has to be our kitchen spaces so it makes sense to invest in a kitchen that is going to stand up to the test of time.

Bamboo also offers a material that’s solid throughout (for cabinets/doors/shelves) rather than a veneered product – again, this helps with the furniture longevity.

 

Not only does it have a wonderful natural patina to it, but bamboo is also an incredibly hard natural material which makes it extremely durable as well as stable for kitchen furniture production.

Bamboo has been proven to better than conventional timber when it comes to its strength too! If processed and laminated correctly, bamboo timber has superior physical features compared to other popular kitchen materials such as oak and pine.

As kitchens see high temperatures and high levels of moisture, bamboo is a brilliant solution for going green in the kitchen is such an expansive way.
