For many of us, this time of year finds us retreating and finding comfort in our homes from the distinctively cooler weather. With our doors and windows shut, and curtains drawn closely, there is a tendency to want to forget the outdoors and get all cosied up. This got me thinking about nature and its connection to our homes and spaces.
No matter what our style, or how large or small our homes are, nature has its place in our hearts and our homes. Whether it be a plant on your windowsill or a vase of flowers taking centre stage on your kitchen table, we all somehow seek a connection with the outdoors. None of us completely eliminate the outdoors from our homes. In fact, most of us have a soft spot for adding nature into our spaces in someway shape or form.
Here are a few of my favourite nature inspired designs for your homes.
Hand Carved Parrot Chair designed by Jamie Graham
Definitely not subtle in its reference to nature and the outdoors, I am in awe of the skill and beauty of the Parrot Chair designed by Jamie Graham for Graham and Green. This chair really is a work of art. Handcrafted from *Sheesham wood, the chair is offset with one of my favourite soft furnishings, velvet. It is the perfect partner and contrasts beautifully with the intricate details of the parrots and scenery. A statement piece for the home, the Parrot Chair is one to be admired, and kept as a future antique.
Good To Know: H.98cm, W.63cm, D.54cm Price: £1,150
*Shessham wood is also known as the Indian rose wood tree. As well as being hard and durable it is resistant to termite and pests. It is a popular wood for engraving in India.
Winter Branches Rug
This gorgeous Winter Branches rug from West Elm is the perfect example of adding a subtle nature element into your homes. It visually speaks of ice and winter coolness. Hand-tufted and woven with viscose, it will provide your floors with a subtle shimmery sheen, and a softness underfoot. I am thinking a cool moonlit winter garden. What do you think?

Lemon Hummer Lamp by Anna Jacobs
Anna Jacobs is a British artist and designer. I have been following on Instagram, and I am in love with her work. Anna’s designs incorporate birds and botanical imagery, and these are perfect for our homes connecting us with our love of nature, and the outside. I have been extremely lucky to have managed to secure a ticket to make one of her exclusive lampshade making events at Heals next month. So watch this space!

Forage Dining Table by Forge Creative
What I love about The Forage dining table is that eating your dinner at this, would almost be like eating in your own little wooded garden. It is handmade from sustainable solid ash top, and silver birch branch legs with the bark still left on. The built-in planter along the centre of the table is for growing your own herbs, but you could equally use to plant other types of plants. Perhaps some pretty flowering orchids which love the humidity in kitchen areas.
Good To Know: L 140cm, W 80cm H 74cm Seats four. To ensure your herb garden grows well, you will need to ensure the table is placed in a good source of light.
Windswept Oak Tree Bookcase Shelf
This Windswept Tree Shelf by Bespoke Oak Interiors, reminds me of Winnie The Pooh’s, Blustery Day. It would look great in a children’s bedroom with their favourite books installed upon its branches. Made from sustainable European oak it makes for an eco-friendly feature piece for your spaces. There are also wall decals to add to your tree over on their website if you fancy adding some birds or leaves.

Love this post Maria. I always like to have the outdoors indoors, right throughout the year. My home is filled with flowers, whether real, painted or crocheted (thanks to the original Winchester classic!) I couldn’t function without my indoor nature :) xx
