I can’t quite believe it’s been 3 years since I last wrote about the incredibly talented duo, Ross and Chris co-founders of The Curious Department. To be honest, I couldn’t NOT introduce you to their latest Heirloom collection which presents itself as jewellery for the home. It really does sound as lush as it looks.
The Heirloom collection is simply exquisite in every detail. A must for those of you that love to embrace colour and pattern in your homes. And, if you aren’t brave enough to adorn your walls, there are beautiful accessories to introduce in the form of luxurious cushions, fabric and limited edition art prints.
Heirloom – Jewellery For The Home – The Curious Department
There’s no doubt that The Curious Department has become the mainstay for those seeking opulent designs that take pattern and intricate design to a whole new level when it comes to adorning your home. Their success is in their attention to detail when it comes to pattern and colour. I’ve been a massive fan of theirs from day one. You can read about them in more detail here where you’ll also discover some of their other beautiful art deco and nature-inspired designs.
Flamboyant Designs
Known for their flamboyant and eccentric take on design, The Curious Department have me bowled over with their latest Heirloom Collection. It’s the perfect solution for those seeking luxurious designs that won’t break the bank to transform their homes to take them to another level of decadence. And, I have to say, I’m already planning my study with their Zellandine wallpaper in Aqua. Although the hubs has decided after having read this post in draft that he’d quite like it in the bathroom!
London-based studio and online boutique The Curious Department has just launched this fabulous collection this week so you might want to get your skates on and head on over. But first a little look at what their latest collection has to offer.
Ross and Chris are the masterminds behind The Curious Department. As homeowners themselves, they came to realise that there was a gap in the market for interesting and curious homewares that were affordable and not mass-produced. Seeking to design and produce homewares that reflected by their passions and personality for budget-conscious home lovers they offer your homes a uniqueness with their patterns and metallic details.

The Inspiration Behind Heirloom – Jewellery For The Home – The Curious Department
The Curious Department has explored the relationship between opulent objects of desire namely gemstones and jewellery that have been handed down from generation to generation. As humans, we are naturally drawn too opulent objects. I know I am, anything shiny and you’ve got me captivated. And as The Curious Department intricately weave nature into their designs, it’s really difficult to resist the lure of their work. Ultimately, their Heirloom collection is an exploration of our desire and emotions that create a rich tapestry associated with them. I personally love this fun and playful collection.
Passed down from generation to generation, gemstones and jewellery have long been part of our human history. New collection Heirloom explores the relationships between opulent objects of desire and the rich tapestry of emotion connected to them.
The Curious Department
If I’m perfectly honest, this collection has had me reminiscing on the ’80s (in a good way) Remember those luxurious silk Chanel chain shirts in loud colours? No? Not to worry because you won’t have had to live through the ’80s to appreciate this collection. In fact, the attention to detail, colourways and design are perfect for some modern-day self-indulgence when it comes to our homes. Although I have to say, I could see myself garbed in a Zellandine silk shirt if the guys ever decided to go down the clothing route.
The Heirloom Collection
The Heirloom Collection consists of three designs. Each deploys rich, bright colours with intricate designs and have been all hand-drawn digitally by Ross Taylor co-founder of The Curious Department.
Each design draws references that span the length of human history, from the Age of Discovery of the Renaissance, through to the bold glamour of 1920s Hollywood Regency through to the indulgent vibrancy of the 1990s. It’s definitely a collection that celebrates life and extravagance to the max.
“At The Curious Department, we aim to craft unique designs born from a curated collection of cultural inspiration. The latest collection entitled Heirloom is no different, medieval geometry, mixed with the colour palettes of 90’s high fashion with a dash of art deco. A peculiar mix that somehow works together to create something… curious?! The collection plays with scale to intensify the glamour of brooches and chains even further… think of the cushions and designs as jewellery for the home!”

Tiana – Heirloom Collection
If you’re looking for a design that offers you large-scaled decadence then you’ll find it with Tiana. This fairy tale design fuses the fantasy of fairy tales with the opulence of ostentatious jewellery. You’ll find sweeping flamboyant tangles of chains and pearls protected by poisonous frogs which create a bold, nostalgic and luxurious design. Tiana comes in two colourways, Nouveau and Antique and both are as exquisite as each other. They’d look beautiful in a bedroom or dressing room setting don’t you think?
Zellandine – Heirloom Collection
The opulent Zellandine design is an orchestra of jewelled encrusted dragonflies entwined within gold beading and exotic floral delights. It’s a feast for the eyes and the fact that it comes in three colourways means there’s no excuse to not indulge yourself in some luxury home decor. And as you may have guessed it’s my favourite.
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to colour ways too as Zellandine wallpaper is available in RosĆ©, Aqua, Moonlight and Noir. All as delicious as each other so you might be a while deciding which one to choose.
If you’re not into wallpaper there are delicious prints such as this Zellandine Brooch to adorn your walls with too.
Complicated geometry and florals underpin the sheer glamour of Zellandine. In this visual feast, guardian emerald encrusted dragonflies protect the centrepiece, Zellandine’s Brooch, a concentric collection of coloured diamonds. Our most detailed design yet, you’ll get lost in Zellandine forever.

And, you never know, it might actually be the stepping stone to building up confidence with the rest of your home’s decor.
Both Tiana and Zellandine are available as wallpaper, cushions and fabric.
Heirloom Cushions – Art For Your Sofas
Available as luxurious and shimmering velvet cushions, The Heirloom collection provides you with the ability to up your sofa styling too the max. Each is hand-cut, sewn and finished in the UK. I also love that the design features on both sides of the cushions whilst velvet piping accentuates and frames each design. A piece of art for your seating or bed and one to covet for years to come.
